We are currently seeking an Engineering Development Technician IV to join our team. Job Duties and Responsibilities The Engineering Development Technician within AeroVironment's MacCready Works group will have the opportunity to work on a variety of cutting-edge unmanned system prototypes to develop solutions for a variety of defense and commercial applications. The Engineering Development Technician will be responsible for assisting projects and programs with the building, integration and maintenance of aircraft and other robotic systems. This takes many forms, from the building of small components, tools and test fixtures, to the full assembly and upkeep of complete prototype systems. The technician will be using a variety of machine shop tools and other items including CNC mills, 3D printers, as well as a variety of internal laboratory tools. The candidate should expect both mechanical and electrical testing and troubleshooting of integrated systems. The candidate will be assisting with designing and conducting tests including experiments, ground testing and flight-testing. Some travel may be required as well as outdoor development and occasional lifting of equipment. For all of the activity the engineering technician will be expected to meet scheduled timelines and in some cases aggressive deadlines to have hardware ready for project milestones. The candidate will also be required to document important processes and build techniques for successful readiness of equipment and transition of responsibilities to other individuals. Required Qualifications & Background High school diploma required. Higher education desired. 5 years of experience in professional Research and Development (R&D) projects required. This includes building and/or prototyping electro-mechanical systems while offering assistance in design feedback, testing and troubleshooting on an electrical and mechanical level. (Aerospace experience preferred) Candidate must have experience building composite parts with both wet layup and prepreg materials Candidate must have an active security clearance and have gone through the background investigation within the last 5 years. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, blueprint or sketches. Candidate must be familiar with machine shop tools and show proficiency with these systems. Skills as a machinist and with GD&T desired. Position requires general familiarity with Microsoft Office software Must have the ability to work with little supervision and exercise independent judgement on a regular basis Must have a clean driving record. Should be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds as well as objects of varying sizes for shipment to & set up at various customer training sites. Candidate must be able to pass a medical assessment for working outdoors and with a respirator. Familiarity with material properties highly desired Ideal candidate should have familiarity with aircraft and/or Remote Control experience Exposure and use of 3D modeling and programming software (such as Solidworks/SURFCAM) desired. Exposure to 3D additive manufacturing technology desired. Candidate may have the opportunity to receive FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot's license but not required Must have clean DMV record.
