Manager, Embedded Software Engineering

We are currently seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to join
The Software Engineer Manager directs and manages the activities
of a team of engineers within the embedded or application software
systems development functions. In this role, one will work with
Program managers to allocate appropriate resources, vet schedules,
and budgets. One will work with Systems Engineering to ensure
performance and technical correctness, help define system
architectures and requirements. One will work with one’s staff to
ensure on-time delivery of the software with quality and
robustness, and to evolve new standards for process and
Lead, grow, guide, and motivate an experienced embedded software
development team to develop software solutions for both our new
products and legacy products
Build a strong productive team, foster a positive and supportive
work culture, inspire and motivate the team.
Coach and Mentor team, including providing career guidance
Develop and improve software design processes such as CMMI level
Recruit and retain talented software engineers
Develops and evaluates software team members to ensure the
efficient operation of the function
Ensures and drives consistency and adequacy of software
development work across projects
Research technology advances for potential incorporation into AV
present and future platforms
Manages planning and implementation of change initiatives;
anticipates and mitigates obstacles and business disruptions caused
by change initiatives. Recommends changes to policies and
establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s)
Develops and gives feedback on schedule, performance
requirement, and budget
Maintains technical competence by contributing to project teams
Develop and maintain documentation (ICDs, SRDs, etc.) of
architectures, interfaces, and other design decisions for software
Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines
how to use resources to meet schedules and goals; provides guidance
to team within the latitude of established company policies
Other duties as assigned
U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) or
asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,
Computer Science, or related discipline is required or equivalent
combination of experience and education
10+ years relevant experience / MS 6+ years’ experience in
real-time / embedded application software
5+ years’ successful experience leading a team of 5-10 software
5+ years’ experience C++. Object-Oriented Design
Demonstrated success with managing technical issues to closure
across various teams to ensure on-schedule delivery with
Aerospace and/or UAV experience including aircraft avionics,
payloads, and their interfaces preferred
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of
Basic electronics knowledge and use of lab equipment is
Deep understanding of software development process
Expert in software lifecycle development including defining and
documenting requirements, object-oriented software architecture and
design, programming and testing, and source code configuration
Technical knowledge and experience with the following are
desired; Serial communications, Network communications, CAN
communication, TCP/IP, UDP, FTP, image processing.

Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal)
skills. Strong listening, questioning, clarifying and summarizing
skills to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, project
management software, and design and analysis tools

schedule demands in a dynamic environment with multiple customers
(strong project and time management skills) and is

Experience in autonomous control and navigation of unmanned
vehicles a plus.
Windows programming a plus.
Familiarity with Keil, Visual Studio, and CCS a plus.
Familiarity with iMX6/Linux a plus.
Familiarity with ARM processors a plus.
Familiarity with SVN configuration management tools a plus.
Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment
Required to stand and sit for long periods; talk, hear, and use
hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard
