The Chief Technology Officer is responsible for partnering with key leaders within our business to develop and execute a multi-year technology strategy and roadmap that directly supports our strategic vision, including growth, profitability, and the emergence of new business models, while fostering a culture of transformational innovation.
Job Duties and Responsibilities Own the company’s overall technology and innovation strategy while partnering with key leaders of our business to establish and execute on the company’s technology roadmap. Challenge our business and engineering leaders across the organization to be bold in making strategic technology moves and investments in order to transform our solutions roadmap and evangelize this throughout the company. Be the “change agent” in building upon our culture of innovation. Evaluate technologies, products, capabilities and talent outside of the company in support of identification and due diligence of inorganic M&A opportunities. Develop technology roadmaps, prioritize R&D investments to support that roadmap, and deliver innovative solutions to our customers’ most important current and future problems. Attract and hire world-class engineers, scientists, and product development talent in key technology areas including robotics (UAVs, material sciences, composites, aeromechanical structures, propulsion systems, guidance navigation and controls, autonomous flight, advanced batteries and energy storage systems, microprocessors, image processors), sensors (EO, IR, MWIR, LiDAR, RADAR, Laser, Multispectral, Hyperspectral), connectivity (RF, WIFI, satcom), and software analytics (i.e. artificial intelligence, computer vision, Deep Learning). Maintain current knowledge of key core technology areas and ensure AV is effectively harnessing the latest technologies within its solution portfolio. Consolidate our technology platforms and create synergistic development plans in order to maximize usage of such technologies in multiple product family and overall solution portfolio. Track, analyze and monitor technology performance metrics. Lead the initiative in thought leadership, innovation and creativity Required Qualifications & Background U.S. Citizenship Required Advanced degrees (MS and PhD) in scientific or technical disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Physics, and Mathematics with applied experience in emerging information technologies such as, digital platforms, machine learning, data analytics, computer vision, sensing, and autonomous systems. 15-20 years of proven technical, engineering, or scientific leadership experience. Minimum of 5 years technical leadership experience in a corporate environment General Management/P&L experience a plus. Ability to define and evolve a technology strategy that directly supports strategic business vision including growth strategy, profitability targets, and emergence of new business models. Demonstrated success record and strong professional reputation with a vibrant professional network. Experience working and interacting with senior officers and executive customers in Commercial & Defense industries. Excellence in relevant research as evidenced by publications in top-ranked field-relevant journals; a research pipeline that is considered internationally to be at a high level, receipt of awards and accolades, or presentations at significant conferences. Currently active security clearance or previously held clearance preferred. Must be able to receive security clearance. Outstanding interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; Ability to deliver complex content in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner to multiple audiences, including employees, government officials, business leaders, journalists, and scientists. Ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
