Registered Nurse (RN) | Operating Room Location: Bakersfield, CA Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $3,532 per week Shift Information: Days - 4 days x 10 hours Contract Duration: 14 Weeks Start Date: 3/16/2026 About the Position Job Title: Operating Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 14 weeks Shift: 10 hour days Hours per Shift: 40 hours per week Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Previous travel experience; Ability to circulate all cases including pediatrics (except CVOR) Description: Medical Solutions Clinical Team will pre-screen all candidates. No first-time travelers accepted. The unit has 11 operating rooms plus 2 pediatric rooms and 1 hybrid room. Room 1 specializes in neuro cases. Rooms 4 and 7 focus on total joint implants. Room 5 is designated for major vascular surgeries. Room 6 is dedicated to heart surgeries and is located directly across the hall from the cath lab. Room 10 is used for robotic surgeries. The remaining rooms are for general surgeries, GYN, urology, plastics, and a small number of podiatry cases. An average of 30-40 cases are performed per day across all rooms. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Common cases include neuro, total joints, major vascular, general, GYN, urology, plastics, and some podiatry. Specific procedures include craniotomy, VP shunt, ACDF, lumbar laminectomy, total joint arthroplasty, AV fistula, EVARs, major vascular surgeries, hearts, laparoscopic and open cholecystectomy, hernias, thyroidectomies, mastectomies, hernia repairs, LAVH, hysterectomy, TURP, breast reduction, mastectomy, burns, and podiatry. There are no eye surgeries or bariatric cases. Experience or must-have skills include two years of RN experience and prior travel experience. The ability to circulate all mentioned cases is a critical requirement. Scrubbing is handled by surgical techs. Charge nurse duties are assigned during the day, with no designated charge RN on weekends or after hours. A house supervisor will oversee the unit during those times. Surgical techs perform scrubbing duties while RN First Assist is provided by the RNFA. There are 7 nursing assistants to help facilitate turnover, gather equipment, and assist with patient transport. The EMR system used is Cerner, and experience is required. Shifts start at 6:30 AM with variations of 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts. Flexibility is necessary to start at 5:30 AM if the surgeon's start time is 6:30 AM. Weeknight call is approximately once a week from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM. The weekend call requirement involves being part of the call team approximately three times a month. Travelers are expected to take holiday call when assigned unless previously approved time off is arranged. A 30-minute response time is required for calls. Floating is expected within all non-cardiothoracic operating rooms but not outside the operating rooms. During evenings and call, the OR RN is responsible for preoperative tasks before surgery. Surgical scrubs and dress code are provided. Unit-specific orientation lasts 2-3 shifts. Cancellations are possible; the hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
