Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all environmental and safety functions for the Simi Valley plant, providing technical expertise to ensure company-wide excellence in its EHS program. JOB DUTIES Coordinates, implements, and maintains comprehensive management policies, procedures, and programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term hazards. Ensures compliance with all company EHS policies, MSHA and Cal/OSHA health and safety requirements, and any other state and county regulatory requirements. Routinely inspects the facility for compliance; conducts planned job observations and performs job/procedure analyses. Acts as site liaison for regulatory agencies, including MSHA, Cal/OSHA, Ventura County APCD, or other agency during this inspection and remediation of any violations within the plants. Manages the site environmental programs, including SPCC, Stormwater, SMARA, and local air permit. Ensures the process for renewal, modification, and/or change to the site's EHS permits is completed in a timely manner; conducts environmental monitoring and reporting activities; collects samples for compliance reporting. Provides MSHA approved EHS training for all employees, contractors, and site visitors; ensures proper training documentation and maintains training record files in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements. Leads site Safety Committee; prepares agenda, coordinates schedules, performs inspections, educates membership, and reports on action item completion. Conducts weekly/monthly safety meetings; prepares and delivers tailgate and other training materials, including annual refresher training activities; and takes necessary follow up actions on safety items noted. Ensures accident investigations are conducted and maintains the appropriate records. Assists in determining corrective actions required to eliminate causes and follows-up to ensure action is taken. Publishes safety shares including near hit and incident alerts. Works closely company EHS Managers, corporate, plant management, Supervisory Staff, and employees at all levels to drive proper safe behavior and a strong safety culture and to maintain compliance with Company and EHS standards, providing technical guidance as needed. Maintains a database for site inspection records; creates clear and concise reports using Microsoft applications and other company computer programs. QUALIFICATIONS Technical degree in a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline and/or equivalent experience. 5+ years' experience in environmental, health and safety affairs in a mining, construction, or heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Experience in surface and/or underground mining operations is strongly preferred. Extensive knowledge of loss prevention management programs and applicable environmental, health and safety rules, regulations, and permitting requirements, including those of the California Air Resources Board and the APCD/AQMD. Ability to develop and implement effective EHS strategies and management systems. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to communicate and work effectively with employees at all levels within the company as well as being able to communicate to various groups outside the company regarding its position on safety and environmental issues. Strong computer skills in MS Excel, Word, and Internet. Ability to foster and develop a cooperative work environment. WORK DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required on a regular basis, as needed, including hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, safety-toed boots, respirator, protective clothing, gloves, and other PPE. Employee may be exposed to dusty and noisy environments and may occasionally work in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb up ladders and up to six flights of stairs, and work on elevated platforms.
